In 2006, Sony entered the digital single-lens reflex camera market when it bought Konica Minolta's camera division. The company's line of cameras was renamed the Alpha line by Sony. The 3000, the first Alpha MILC, was released in August 2013. Sony has set its sights on the medical, healthcare, and biotechnology fields as a future growth industry. The business bought Micronics, Inc., a maker of microfluidics-based diagnostic tools, in 2011 and iCyt Mission Technology, Inc., a flow cytometer manufacturer (renamed Sony Biotechnology Inc. in 2012).
