In 1959, Sony created the TV8-301, the first all-transistor television ever made. In 2005, the company stopped using the Trinitron brand for its lines of cathode ray tube televisions and computer monitors with aperture grilles. Sony is a significant producer of audio products and one of the innovators in active noise-cancellation technology. Up until 2005, Sony referred to its LCD TVs as LCD WEGA. In the global television market, Sony lost the No. 1 position it had held for decades in 2006. Sony was the third-largest television manufacturer in the world as of 2012. In 2006, Sony entered the digital single-lens reflex camera market when it bought Konica Minolta's camera division. The company's line of cameras was renamed the Alpha line by Sony. The 3000, the first Alpha MILC, was released in August 2013. Sony has set its sights on the medical, healthcare, and biotechnology fields as a future growth industry. The business bought Micronics, Inc., a maker of microfluidics-based diagnostic tools, in 2011 and iCyt Mission Technology, Inc., a flow cytometer manufacturer (renamed Sony Biotechnology Inc. in 2012).
