Ryzen is an Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) brand of multi-core x86-64 microprocessors based on the Zen microarchitecture designed and marketed for desktop, mobile, server, and embedded platforms. On December 13, 2016, AMD announced a new processor series called. " Ryzen," which will be available in Q1 2017. The 1000 series featured up to eight cores and 16 threads, with a 52% increase in instructions per cycle (IPC) over previous CPU products. AMD announced their Zen 3 architecture for their Ryzen 5000 series processors on June 16, 2020. On January 4th, 2022, a concise stop-gap release of Zen 6000 mobile-only series processors was made. The new Zen 7000 series will be available in 2022, albeit on September 27th, for desktops with the new Zen4 core, which has a 13% increase in IPC and a 15% increase in frequency. The Socket AM4 platform is used by the vast majority of AMD's consumer products. AMD launched the Ryzen Threadripper line in August 2017, aimed at the enthusiast workstation market.

AMD intends to transition to the new Socket AM5 platform for consumer desktop products in late 2019. AMD began producing first-generation Zen+ products in late 2019. Ryzen is the consumer-level implementation of AMD's newer Zen microarchitecture, which was completely redesigned to mark AMD's return to the high-end CPU market. It comes after the release of AMD's Bulldozer CPU in 2011, which, while not an entirely new CPU design like Zen, was designed and optimized for parallel computing above all else. Outside of raw multithread performance and use in low-power APUs with integrated Radeon graphics, this rendered it uncompetitive in almost every other area. This effectively forced AMD to abandon the entire high-end CPU market until 2017.
